So, long story short my friend (we'll call him poot) and his roommate rescued a dog, but because of his apartment neighbor's constant complaining and rude behavior, were forced to give him up. They were going to take him back to the shelter he was originally at in Chicago, but I wanted to give him a chance. The dog is beautiful and so sweet but has some anxiety-induced behavioral issues as well as bad separation anxiety. I offered to take the dog to my parent's house for the weekend (in college) and see if he could possibly mix with the rest of my pets (dog and 2 cats), and therefore I would adopt him. The poor puppy is only 1 years old and has already been moved 4 times due to past neglectful owners and tragic situations. However, the pup does not handle cats well, and I fear his behavioral issues are going to be too much for my family while I'm not there (I can't take him to my apt at college bc my roommate is allergic). I wanted to give the pup a chance because even tho he is a beautiful, fun dog, his behavioral issues would make him hard to adopt, and being in a shelter is probably the absolute worst thing for his anxieties. I don't think it's fair to keep the pup since I don't think he can get all the training he needs from my family or myself, but I really don't want to surrender him to a shelter. I was wondering if anyone knows of any foster homes or foster-based rescues around the Chicagoland area? I don't want to give him to a stranger, and if he continues to be aggressive towards cats, the one person who would be an amazing fit for him would not be able to take him. It breaks my heart thinking about this puppy being neglected in the future or being terrified in a shelter after already being moved around so much. So please, if anyone has any suggestions, lmk
