How to dispose of cat litter?

So, just confirmed that Im adopting a kitten. And have been doing a lot of preparing for the little fluff but one thing I'm not sure of is how to deal with used litter??

I live in a 5th floor with no elevator so it would be a trek to dump the litter in the outside bins every day. Probably about once or twice a week is ok. So looking for something to keep the litter in the flat but keep it from smelling.

I've looked at Litter Locker/Litter Genies but I really don't like the idea of proprietary bags. Also I've seen reviews that the plastic starts to smell after a while? Any experience with either of these?

Then there are diaper bins, similar idea. I've seen that some people use the Ubbi bins (which are metal) but they are soooo expensive. But they don't need any special bags. So if this was the best option I'd try it, but wondering if anyone has other ideas.

Is there any other option I'm missing? Preferably using as little plastic as possible and obviously something that contains smells. Anyone have any experiences with these products? Or any other products/DIY solutions?

TIA
