Looking at my post now, it's pretty long.
I adopted a kitten with my boyfriend about a month ago. I named him Baron Humbert Von Gikkingen, after the fancy cat from The Cat Returns. But we usually just call him small one (Male, 6 months old, fixed). I truly love small one. He's a lanky boy with droopy eyes and a swagger in his step. The reason we adopted him was for our cat Khan, who we now call big one (Female, two years old, fixed) Small one adjusted pretty qucikly to our little two bedroom apartment. Big one seems content with her new roommate and they often chase eachother around the living room.
Here's the problem.
Small one scratches and bites. All the time. He'll go after any appendages, really. And he doesn't look like the type either! He purrs loudly and slowly walks around the apartment, looking content. We don't play using our hands, but that doesn't seem to matter. Putting fingers in his mouth is his favorite pass time. Toes are his second favorite, which is why I now sit cross-legged with my feet tucked under my legs.
I try my best to redirect his attention with a toy or simply move him away from me. But he just keeps lunging back. There was another post advising to simply ignore the cat. Tried that. Yesterday he clawed his way up my pants (pulled some good threads out of my new jeans). I placed him on the floor and ignored him. He proceeded to stare at me silently before crying and scratching my stomach. After I yelped in pain, he went for the toes. I've also tried hissing at him, but It's ineffective. And I look like an idiot.
He'll go after you for any reason. Cleaning his litter box, sitting on the couch watching tv, doing work on the computer. He'll trot into the room and just dig his claws into you. We also found out that he enjoys jumping on the kitchen counters, into the toilet bowl, and the recycling bins.
And he's relentless with food. I have to put him in another room just to eat. He starts crying hoping that you'll share the goods on your plate. And honestly, when small one sizes up big one and goes into swat her, I'm rooting for big one to kick his furry bum.
He's very clingy. I know he's still young, but I can't get a moment away from him when I'm home. When I'm studying, he has to sit on my books. If I'm showering, he'll be sitting on the other side of the shower curtains .. just waiting .. when I go to put on cloths he'll magically pop out of the laundry. Like a little surprise demon ..
It's not like I don't have things for him to entertain himself! We have three large towers, a huge collection of toys, scratching posts and large tunnels to play in.
I love him and will always care for his furry little booty. But it's too much! I should have adopted a fluffy senior instead. I've had other cats before, and they were all very gentle, just like big one.
Any advice? I probably sound like a complainer, but he's driving me nuts and I'm on edge. Always scanning the room to see where he's lurking. Squirt bottles with holy water might be my next option.
Just kidding. I think that's pretty cruel and it would freak out big one. And big ones a good girl.
