I rescued a kitten a few weeks ago. She usually has a great appetite and i've never had any problems getting her to eat. Wednesday night and yesterday I noticed she wasn't eating as much as she usually does so i've made an appointment to see the vet on Monday. I tried to schedule an appointment for today (Friday) but the vet that I can afford was booked out. Because there are weekend lockdowns happening where I live, everything will be closed on Saturday and Sunday so i'll have to wait until Monday to do anything.
She's barely eating, only taking tiny little nibbles of food. And only after i've followed her around and put it right up to her nose she'll take a few bites then walk away. I've tried everything I can think of, a variation of wet foods, dry food, pumpkin with mashed rice, the gravy from the cat food, kitten milk. She barely touches any of it. I tried using a syringe in an attempt to force her to drink some of the kitten milk but after two tiny syringe fulls she refuses to swallow it and it just runs out of her mouth. I noticed today she had some diarrhea and it was a grey color. I've read this can be caused by a gut health issue and lack of bile and that probiotics might be the solution, which I still won't be able to get my hands on until Monday. I have some human probiotics but i've seen a lot of mixed opinions on if they're safe for animals.
Even though she hadn't been eating much she'd been acting completely normal otherwise and still has a surprising amount of energy, playing with her toys, chasing after my feet, her usual shenanigans. However, this evening I noticed she's looking a little worn down, and I feel it might be downhill from here. She also seems much lighter and already seems to be loosing weight ( she was already pretty skinny when I found her). With having to wait until Monday to see the vet and her appetite only seeming to be diminishing i'm getting really anxious. I just wish I could get some food and nutrients in her and i'm scared of what will happen between now and Monday if I don't.
Does anyone have any advice or been in a similar situation? If she has a tummy ache are there any natural remedies that I might have at home that could help?
Even if you don't know exactly what I could do I'd just like to be reassured that maybe she won't die or be close to death between now and Monday, I know this might seem a little dramatic but my anxiety won't let me believe otherwise.
