My cat ran away for the first time, what's the best way to lure him home?

I rescued my cat almost 2yrs ago from the factory I was working at. He has been an inside cat ever since. Wednesday evening he somehow has slipped out of the house and has not returned yet. I've searched everywhere with no luck. He's a skittish little guy so I know he's probably hunkered down hiding. One of the neighbors a few houses away seen him Wednesday evening hiding under some trees in nextdoor neighbors yard. So I've been focusing in that area.

I live in a rural area in Ohio, cornfields across the street, wheatfieds a couple streets behind my house. We have some coyotes but they are rarely seen. So far I've physically searched for him morning, noon and night. I've set out his bed, food, treats and cooked up some awful smelling anchovies for scent trying to lure him home. I've been keeping my garage door open hoping he will slip in during the night. Tonight I am setting up a trap in case hes the one eating the food I've been leaving out (could be neighbors cats)

Does anyone know what else I can do to try and lure him home? I am completely devastated and this whole process is really wearing on me emotionally.
Thank you in advance
