My cats

Hi, I need some external opinions/advice on an aggressive cat who doesn’t get along with other cats.

We have 6 cats in the one household, it had been 3 cats (3 black and white cats) 6 months ago but we took in 3 additional black kittens we found under our house, we introduced them carefully and so far all is going mostly well, one of our 6 cats (Sampson) is a menace though, he’s fantastic with people, he will sit on your lap when your watching something, he snuggles with you at night and is very friendly with new people, but when it comes to other cats he’s generally aggressive, but it’s not like this at all times which is where I need the advice.

All 6 cats have access to the entire house in the day, and we seperate them at night, the black cats go into the laundry, there’s beds, food, water and a litter in there and we open it back up first thing in the morning, meal times for these black cats are always in the laundry, the other 3 tuxedo cats have access to the entire house at night however and there’s usually no conflict whatsoever from Sampson, in the day things change when all the cats are roaming or doing whatever, Sampson becomes generally hostile to the other 5 cats, if Sampson goes near those black cats they run and hide or growl and cower, and when Sampson attacks them they scream so loud it sounds like they’re being tortured, with an aftermath of the victim cats fur left all over the ground, we’ve tried several ways to change Sampsons behaviour including a spray bottle with water (we no longer use this for now), distracting Sampson before an attack, separating Sampson into a bedroom on his own for 30 mins - 1 hour after an attack, to even hissing at him to try and tell him that what he’s doing is wrong, we’re out of ideas and we won’t get rid of him, we’ve had him for too long and he’s family.

It’s getting to the point where it’s starting to annoy me, I could understand his behaviour if these cats were just in his face all the time but they aren’t, they actively avoid him and he makes an effort to go after them, the only time there’s ever neutral behaviour between ALL 6 cats is at meal times, they usually get very close to each other and there’s no conflicts ever, for context our house is quite large, double story, plenty of rooms and 4 seperate cat litter boxes around the house.

Just before he pounced on and attacked our youngest black kitten as she was attempting to use a litter box, there was fur everywhere and the black cat was cowering in the corner in a submissive position with Sampson leaning over her with his chest all out and that when I got there, this made me quite angry I can’t lie, I picked him up and went to put him in a room by himself for a while when all of a sudden he hissed at me for the first time ever, in my already angry state I did something I probably should not have he went to scratch me so I essentially bear hugged him in an aggressive manor, tucking his head under my arms I shook him around for a bit, I could tell he did not enjoy it but when I let him go he did not run and cower from me, He bowed down, laying down and getting low to the ground while looking at me, I could tell this was a submissive position so I sat with him for a minute and just sort of pat him, I decided to not lock him in the bedroom because I wanted to see what he would do next, and he just went and sat on the couch like everything was normal, so many reactions from cat just took place and I don’t really know what they mean, I love all 6 of my cats including Sampson, but I have absolutely no idea why he’s like this, he’s generally passive at night but throughout the day it’s like he has mood swings, none of the other cats attack each other like he does to them and they get along together normally like I had envisioned from the start, I’m considering giving Sampson to my brother but they have indoor rabbits I don’t know if that would be a good mix.

If anyone has experience with flattening out hostile cat to cat reactions I’d love to hear about it.
