i adopted an 8 week old kitten about 5 or 6 weeks ago. shes always been pretty skinny, i got her dewormed and got rid of the fleas and ear mites right when i adopted her but shes still staying skinny. i work for doordash & im out quite a bit, usually like 9 hours or so every day. i know kittens are supposed to be eating like all the time, so i leave some food out for her 24/7 but whenever i come home her bowl is always untouched. the second i walk in the door, she gets all excited & greets me and after a couple minutes of that, she goes to eat and acts like shes starving, shoving her whole face in the bowl.
i live in a crummy apartment and i havent payed the pet fee for her, my 3 roommates have no idea i have a cat. the apartment is full of bugs though. if i leave her food bowl on the ground, when i come home there will be an entire colony of ants all over it and all in my room. ive tried putting it all sorts of places- on top of things, in wooden containers, in different places with ant traps around, but literally nothing works EXCEPT for when i put it up on my chair. the ants cant climb up the smooth metal so its always clean when i get home. when i used to leave it on the floor (before the ants came into the picture) she used to eat it all by the time i got back. now that its sitting on my chair, its always full. but she knows how to get there on her own, cuz after i come home she jumps up there and starts eating. any suggestions on what i should do/is this something to worry about?
also i wanted to mention yes i keep my kitten hidden in my apartments room which obviously doesnt sound fun so i take her out all the time. we go driving together, go on walks, all sorts of stuff. also she has a million toys. just wanted to mention that
