I'm the young (20m) cat-dad to an amazingly sweet, special-needs persian. We've been bonded since he was a kitten, and he just turned 8 this year. My family was paying $80-$100 to a professional groomer periodically as he gets extremely long, thick fur that's impossible to keep mat-free. As I moved out for college and took my little guy with me, I wanted to get him a trim, but didn't want to spend the money to do so. I was hesitant at first, as he's been cut at the groomers several times (one even requiring stitches), but after watching some videos, I was confident that I could give it a shot. I bought a $30 clippers of amazon, and sat him down in the living room for the shave. He was the sweetest little guy during the whole thing. He didn't move much at all, even purring as I shaved his fur. Everything went extremely smoothly, and I shaved about two-three regular cats-worth of fur off of him. Ever since, he's been extremely cuddly (more than usual) & I can tell that he's much more comfortable. Best $30 I've ever spent, and if you have a cat with similar needs, I'd recommend thinking about it!
