Should I adopt another cat?

First and foremost, excuse my lousy english since it is not my first language.

So a little backstory.

I have a cat (one of those bicolors, you know the black and white average furry cuteness) which is very very energetic, extremely needy and demands attention all day long. I love the little thing but I can't pay attention to him everyday, and my GF and I are not at home all the time.

So it occurred to me that if we adopt another kitten, maybe he will focus his energy on him, parenting a little and you know, having a life partner. We once brought home a couple of days a little cat from my MIL (which was something like 3 months old) when she was away, and the two creatures seemed to get along really good.

I kind of like the idea but I wonder if it's the right choice. Will the two animals get along for long periods of time? Another thing is, I live in an apartment, not a small one (2 rooms, kitchen, living room) but it has no yard. Is it too small for housing both felines?

And to those of you who have two cats and live in similar conditions, how's your life like?
