Tips for walking to the vet with a very nervous cat?

Just like the title says, I'm taking my cat to the vet on Tuesday and I have to walk there. It's by no means a long walk - my phone says 5 minutes. The road I'll be walking down isn't incredibly busy but the vet is in a shopping center and my cat is very nervous around people. She's a year and 2 months old, I adopted her back in May and she still is a bit scared of me.

My biggest question is about putting a blanket over her carrier while we're walking. I can see how having a blanket over her carrier would be either comforting or terrifying: with a blanket, she wouldn't be seeing all the people, but she wouldn't be able to tell where noises were coming from. I'm going to be putting the pillow from her bed in her carrier to try and make her as comfortable as possible but I've never had a cat that was this nervous before.
