Traveling with One hamster vs two rats

So I’m planning on getting another (or maybe more than one) pet soon and since I’m looking for something on the smaller side I’m debating between either a couple rats or a hamster.

I’ve owned both before so I’m prepared to take care of them regardless of what I choose but I do have one concern that I haven’t been able to find a solid answer for. I don’t travel much (haven’t at all lately) but I do usually take a couple trips here and there that are less than 4 hours, but usually around 2.5 hours in the car at a time. I don’t spend much time away from home and I work from home too but when I’m gone it’s usually for a day or two at a time.

I would love to be able to set up a decent travel cage and take either option with me if they could handle it stress wise, but if that’s not an option would either be okay for less than three days alone? When I had rats and hamsters previously I didn’t have to travel so I’m not sure how to handle it. Also I have a dog if that could change which would be better for me but he’s generally not that interested in other animals but is very friendly and chill.
