Hi all, I have a 13year old Burmese who is very active, very affectionate and very attached. She loves visitors and will sit on the laps of strangers. But she does hate the carrier and meows when she is in the car. When we initially moved her to our tiny apartment 2 years ago she hid under the couch for quite a few hours. We are going to our in laws for two or three nights for Xmas (I'm in Australia and there are no covid cases).
I don't really want to leave the cat at our apartment alone for three days and think I should take her with us. It's easy to section off one side of their house with the laundry and guest room so I was thinking I would start her in the laundry with food and litter and hiding places and then open the door so she can come sleep with us in the guest room, but she wouldn't be able to roam the majority of the house. I'll bring the harness if she gets ballsy and wants to explore the rest of the house and their quiet garden. I will take things that smell like home and have a pheromone spray too.
Do you have advice on the best way to do this to make it stress free? Or is the whole thing a bad idea? I could ask a friend to come feed her but I would want her to sit and cuddle her for ages and feel like that's too big of an ask for Xmas. Also if the trip goes well we could take her there again and she would hopefully get more and more comfortable.
