Can you keep zebras in the UK ?

I didn't know which subreddit would be right for this, especially considering as zebras are certainly not pets, but I couldn't think of a subreddit that would be appropriate for this question. I would like to open with a disclaimer that I have no intention of doing this (primarily for financial reasons) - this is just a hypothetical question some friends and I were wondering about.

After reading this article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36356363#:~:text=Wild%20animals%20at%20UK%20homes%20include%20lions%2C%20zebras%20and%20crocodiles,-23%20May%202016&text=Wild%20animals%20including%20lions%2C%20tigers,the%20UK%2C%20figures%20have%20revealed I discovered that there are a lot of unusual and exotic animals being kept in private residences in the UK, and wondered exactly how this would work. For example, I understand that zebras are more accustomed to warmer climates than in places like England and Scotland.

Having seen several deer parks, and acting on the (perhaps naive) assumption that zebras are pretty similar to horses, I was wondering how exactly (if at all) it could be possible to keep zebras on private land. As far as I am aware they are not endangered, but for the sake of ecological conservation could this work?

I don't have unlimited financial resources, but if someone did, would it be possible to buy a few hundred/thousand acres and keep a herd of zebras, allowing them to roam wild within a walled enclosure?

If anyone can think of a better place to post this question, that would also be fine :)
