I’m in a tricky situation. I have a dog that belongs to my ex. My ex was going to surrender the dog, but now they changed their mind.
Here’s where it gets weird. My ex is currently in a unit on a psychiatric hold. Before they were taken in I was able to take the dog because I was told they’re friend would take the dog that next morning. That’s when they said they were going to surrender the dog over anyways. Nothing could be done then so I took the animal so he didn’t have to go to a kennel.
(Idk if this helps but there is a cps case against them. Not an animal neglect one, as there wasn’t anything brought up about it.)
Ex left me a message that morning saying no friend existed and that I needed to keep the dog for them.
Now I’ve been trying to get a hold of my ex. I left messages with the hospital only to be told that my ex didn’t wish to speak to anyone.
I don’t know what to do. Legally this animal isn’t mine. I cannot keep him though. He is dog aggressive and I have a dog. It’s not fair to keep either dog locked up in a room. It was fine when I thought it was a one night situation, because I thought that I could keep the dog in my room with me, he’d be safe, not scared in a kennel, and then would have a home to go to in the morning.
I’m not sure what the right thing to do is, I want what is best for the animal.
