My 7 month old cat started yelling at 3 AM two nights ago. I sleep with my ears plugged, so I wasn't aware of it until my boyfriend, who wakes up daily at 4:30 AM to go to work, didn't tell me he had been horribly tired the whole day. He couldn't function normally at his workplace (where he has to be alert the entire time), because of the cat waking him up and yelling the entire time until he left the bedroom. Yesterday and now, she added pawing on the door to the mix. She howls non stop and paws on the door, it's been 5 hours now since she started. I checked her bowls, they're full and it seems she's just bored.
I've already been nagged on by the neighbors and a Google search said to just ignore it and not give in, but both me and my partner have sleeping disorders and I do not want to loose housing over a cat yelling. I also started hearing it too, with my ears still plugged and it will bother me too much to stay asleep from now on.
What can I do to discipline her? How to make her stop yelling for no reason?
