Three weeks ago we were lucky enough to receive a new dog, a three year old patterdale terrier, doesn't seem like long but he already belongs in our home and loves us all (me, 19m, my brother, 11, and my mum, 41).
His original owner didn't want him and through a chain of people he has been given to us, there's a couple of catches but overall he's our dog and he seems happy to be.
Except he is really weird with walks, on his first day with us he was great with being walked, I was the one who took him out, the only thing was he didn't like going back the way he came, which doesn't really matter, because we go on round walks anyway.
As he's got more at home he's gotten more and more fussy with walking, ideally we'd be taking him out for hour long walks, and little 20 minute ones multiple times a day but he's very annoying about it.
So from our house you can go left, right, or forward, forward leading down a slight decline, and if you go forwards he stops, he'll just stay still in the middle of the road, I've felt awful because I've had to drag him, but I can't not when he's stopping on roads, I've found if I pick him up, walk a bit down the hill and then put him back down he's happy to walk the rest, but with my mum he downright refuses.
Sometimes he just stops every few minutes, and you have to stand next to him, pat him and he starts going again, I feel awful because I really want him to enjoy himself outside the way he does inside, and I don't want walking to be a chore for him and I know he enjoys it when he's not worried.
It's not like he doesn't trust me, he's spent every night curled up at my side, and he's actually laid by me right now, I'm actually surprised on how clingy he's gotten.
I don't know I guess I'm just wondering how I make sure he's healthy and enjoying himself as much as possible
