My cat Nellie is 12-13 years old. Recently my family moved to a new house and my cat has been having accidents on the carpet. I explained to my parents that although this is extremely frustrating, it’s normal for cats to be nervous and pee when they’re moved to a new house.
So, we started placing Nellie in the litter box and encouraging her and slowly but surely she started to go there on her own. We recently put a topper on the litter box and tonight Nellie had another accident on the carpet. Except this time, she peed on a power strip, and almost caused a fire. My parents and I are obviously scared because if we weren’t home our house would have burned down. My parents have pretty much made the decision to rehome my cat because of this. I’m trying to give them other alternatives because I feel like rehoming Nellie would not be good for her and it honestly breaks my heart since she’s a pet I love and care about. What can I do in this situation?
