I’ve had my girl for 4 years. Got her when she was 9, currently 13. We’ve struggled with feeding for awhile how.
Currently I keep friskies surf and turf dry in her bowl all day (she free feeds). I put down 1/2 cup, but sometimes it’ll take her a few days to eat that much. This worries me. I give her a Delectables Bisque Pouch every evening (which she loves and begs me for every night), but those just aren’t nutritious enough to be a meal.
I’ve tried different dry foods (healthier, yummier, grain fee). I’ve tried introducing wet foods (chunky, gravy lovers, pate) EVERYHING! All she ever does it lick the juice. I’ve even tried nutribulleting wet foods to make them liquid (since the Bisques are liquid and she loves them). Still nothing.
She’s eating less and less dry food but doesn’t seem to be more interested in wet either. She can’t live off the Bisques. She’s a chunky girl but not super overweight. But when it comes to food she begs and begs and then doesn’t actually eat. I don’t understand how she can be happy and chunky but also is barely eating?
I’m wondering if switching to scheduled feedings would potentially help? Is she too old to try to change schedules?
Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated! I’ve tried so many things. Is she just picky? Should I be concerned? Do older kitties just eat less?
TD;DR: My senior cat isn’t eating enough. What have you done that’s worked? Should I be concerned?
