Did I ruin the cat introduction?

So I'm fostering a 4 year old tortoiseshell female for three months and she eventually liked me super hard and now she doesn't want to be away from me since I treated her right. Thing is I knew it was temporary and I didn't want to deal with any sudden shock of inevitably losing her when her owner wanted her back. So I went and actually adopted a 3 month old kitten (it's probably a couple weeks younger than they told me though).

So I did some research and on one site it told me that as long as you did the typical stuff (introducing scents with positive stuff, transferring your scent with petting, transferring toys, etc) it could take as little as a few hours for them to get used to it if one or both are social cats or one of them is a kitten. I thought 'great, both of those prerequisites are met since the adult was living in tandem with other cats when I first met her at the adoption center and takes extremely well to human visitors. So due to my impaitience mixed with that information, I plugged in Feliway to augment the process and waited nine hours.

I opened the bedroom door and was dead wrong. The female cat was pissed off and hissed and it was so unlike her I was taken aback. I thought that her being female would help and she would try to nurse the kitten if she liked it. I put a pillow between them so she couldn't see the kitten and she walked out of the room.

Did I ruin it? Will they hate each other forever now due to the first impression?
