I need help with my cat and my new puppy

I need help with my orange tabby cat and my new puppy

I recently got a new pet, a brown puppy, i dont know wich breed or type, i tried to make my cat meet the new pet since i want them to coexist without trying to fight or something and since the puppy is just a few months old and my cat is 3 years old that would end up badly

The first time i tried to make them meet each other the cat screamed and tried to attack him, i was able to restrain him but i ended up with some scratches and a bite, something unusual from my cat since he usually just sleeps on my bed or on me

Now im forced to keep the cat out most of the day since the little guy likes to go around or stay in very vulnerable places, i fear that this will make me distance from my cat and that he will search for another palce to live since he spends the day either outside or in my bed

I dont want my cat to go away or something like that because i love him and he has become a part of the family, also i dont want my new puppy to get hurt or badly injured because my cat doesnt like him, i dont want to take him away because of my cat neither

So i need help on how do i make them know each other and not try to fight between themselves, how do i make them coexist safely also i would appreciate any advice that could be useful
