Hello everyone,
I have a 13 week old, male, domestic short haired kitten. He’s not yet neutered but will be in about 2 weeks.
I recently took him to the vet due to some eye discharge and turns out part of his eye lid was mildly irritated. He’s now on antibiotics and eye drops. The antibiotics are fine, I just put them in his food. However, the eye drops are a whole other story.
He fights me so much to get them. The first night, he let me put them in but clearly didn’t like it. After that, he knows what’s happening from the time he sees me with the bottle. I got them in this morning and he was a bit stressed but came around and was back to his usual self.
I give him a treat after every time I put them in. Tonight, after his eye drops, he took his treat and even let me pet him. It seemed like he was back to normal. However, when it was time for bed, he went to this new spot at the bottom of my bookshelf as opposed to his usual spot in my bedroom. I tried to lure him out with a treat but he just stared at me then went back to sleep. I’m positive that he’s angry with me, however, we have such a great bond and I don’t want to break it.
I still have to give him these eye drops twice a day for 13 more days. The vet said once a day is fine if he gives trouble but twice a day is recommended. Does anyone have any tips for how to administer the eye drops in a quick and easy way without him hating me? Thanks so much to anyone who replies!
