Pet surrender

Good morning ladies and gents. I'm having issues with my 6 month old kitten. I adopted him at 2 months old. I played with every day and gave treats after scary things like being picked up and nail clippings. He even started jumping on my bed to snuggle with me at night. It was great! Until he found out I hid it he treats really high up on a dresser. He decided that he would take it upon himself to climb up to it. He miscalculated a jump from my computer desk and wedged his lower half into my metal hamper. He broke his hind leg and was stuck there for 10 minutes before I got to him. He was extremely panicky but I managed to get him unstuck and isolate him in a smaller environment (bathroom) while I inspected him. After a 2k vet trip I got him fixed up. Ever since then he is absolutely terrified of me. He pees himself when I walk near him. Not toward him but anywhere near him. I've given him plenty of space however he's taken to destructive behaviors to create new hiding spots. He is 8 months old now and it's just getting worse. He is fine around my daughter and spouse who can both pick him up without any issue.

TLDR adopted kitten was great until he broke his leg and I freed him. Now he hates me and is completely terrified of me. He has plenty of artificial hiding spots however he is destroying things to create new ones. Is it a good idea to surrender and start over?
