I adopted this 3-5 year old mixed breed dog from a shelter in November. She was initially rescued by a task force from unsafe living conditions, and they told me they found her malnourished, kept in a cage and covered in fleas. It appears she's had multiple litters which made me wonder if she was being used as a puppy mill breeder.
Anyway, I beefed her up a bit to almost double the weight she was at, and she looks much healthier. However I noticed within the past few weeks that she's developing freckle spots on her belly and hind legs. I think they are freckles and not any kind of skin lesion or infection, they're just skin pigmentation so I haven't taken her to the vet about it (I previously asked them about the dark pigmentation on her teets and they said it was normal coloring, so I assume I'll receive a similar answer)... but I'm wondering if a sudden appearance of spots is normal and what could cause it. Maybe it has something to do with being healthier / getting sunlight?
