My cat was a stray before I adopted him, and ever since humans came into his life and became his food source he has been obsessed with people. I love him dearly, but he is still adjusting to living in a home and is having some independence problems. He loves me so much and wants attention ALL THE TIME! It feels like he’s trying to makeup for the years where he went without human interaction. 90% of the time i’m able to give him attention when he asks but sometimes I am busy and I can’t and he meows over and over. He doesn’t act out besides this but it makes me feel bad :( Additionally, it’s very hard for him to play by himself. I’m sure he didn’t develop these skills when he was a kitten before survival comes before play right? I bought an independent play toy but he doesn’t seem to want to play with it unless I am there showing him how to. Did anyone else have this problem during the first year of adopting a stray? If there truly is no solution for this and I just have a needy cat forever that’s totally fine! But will he eventually learn to be independent in a home?
