so my partner and I have an 8 year old female cat we adopted back in Feb. we have had 0 problems with her other than her being a picky eater at times to the point where she just won't eat unless we figure out exactly what she wants.
anyways the past couple days she has been coughing/gagging (like the sound a cat makes before a hairbail) with nothing coming out, like she is struggling to cough up something but can't. plus we checked her litterbox and her stools have been runny and yellow.
for context, she never has hairballs (that we have seen so far) nor vomits, but she does have pretty thick hair. it's also super unlike her to eat or get into things she shouldn't. she's super mellow and mostly sleeps and cuddles during the day. also we adopted a 6 month old kitten about 3 weeks ago, kept em separate at first, looked into introductions, kitten seems to annoying older cat but they aren't hurting each other. the kitten came from a rescue where we reassured she has been given all vaccinations/etc. she did have worms the second day we had her but the rescue gave us dewormer for both her and our older girl, which we gave them.
we recently added some pet-friendly arm and hammer litter deodorizer to their boxes but i cleaned her box and gave her new litter in case that was irritating her.
so basically we aren't sure what could be wrong with her, or if the stress from the kitten is causing this??? thankfully we have an apt for her tomorrow but hoping whatever is wrong isn't super crazy expensive bc we are college kids in our 20s with min wage jobs.
anyone have any similar experiences??
