So for background we have 2 cats and 3 dogs. One of the cats is a new to our home cat because we had a little guy pass away from a heart condition and my fiancé really wanted another cat. Since bringing home the new cat about 2 months ago, cat our older cat will not use the bathroom in the litter box. We are at the point where we are cleaning the 3 litter boxes daily and replacing the litter weekly. It’s getting expensive and we just keep find piss and cat shit everywhere. It’s exhausting and I’m at my wits end.
This evening I was cleaning up more cat piss that I found that is ruining our carpet and the new cat jumps up on a chair that my Fiancé’s grandmother gave her and starts scratching it. I’m normally very good about picking up the cat and showing him the scratching post but instead I just smacked him off the chair. It wasn’t very hard but I instantly knew that I made a mistake. I was angry about the pee that is ruining our house and frustrated with the situation and I lost it.
I am looking for advise on how to help the pee situation and how to repair my relationship with the new cat. Also please don’t lecture me about hitting my cat. I understand that it was wrong and it was a mistake. I’m feeling overwhelmed and the situation got the best of me.
