Hi, I apologize for the long post. I'm really worried because my cat had an asthma attack today. I looked up a video on YouTube of a cat having an asthma attack and it was identical to what my cat was doing, so im 99.99% sure that is what it was. It didn't last long, probably around 10 seconds max and then she seemed fine. I also looked up cat wheezing and what it sounds like and I realized my cat does this a lot too. I don't know why I thought it was normal, it never realized it was wheezing, even though I also suffer from asthma. But the attack was definitely very obvious, and immediately I knew.
I called my nearest vet office to make an appointment to have her seen, but when I called them on the phone they said it would be best to take her to an emergency animal clinic because any feline respiratory problems can be fatal and it is best to treat it asap. I obviously agree, but the only thing is that veterinary emergency clinics are very expensive, whereas a regular vet appointment could save me money. I have taken my mother's cat to a nearby emergency clinic and the total cost came out to $900+, which it extremely expensive for me. I just recently graduated college, I do not have a lot of money whatsoever, and the only way I could possibly afford that is to take the money out of my credit card, or ask my mother to help me with some of the cost, which no one in my family has a lot of money so it's not like my mom can cover the bill either. Bottomline, financially, I'm not well off.
I guess my question is, how bad would it be if I wait a few days for a regular vet appointment? Obviously I don't want anything to happen to her, if I have to pay that money for her to be okay then of course I will, but if I can wait a couple days for it to come out cheaper without anything horrible happening to her then that would be my preferred option.
Does anyone have any advice? Should I just take her to the emergency clinic?? I do not want my cat to die or anything bad to happen to her, if I have to go bankrupt for her, I will. but again, if I can save some money by taking her to a regular vet, I would love that. im very stressed and sad :( any suggestion or advice helps.
cat background info: 3 years old, Siamese, 13 lbs (yes she is a little overweight im working on it), very sweet, kinda anxious, overall healthy, except for today's asthma attack and occasional wheezing/sneezing.
TL;DR: cat had an asthma attack, she seems fine and normal now. I don't have a lot of money. i'm wondering if I can wait a few days for a regular vet appointment to save some $$ or if I should just take her to a vet emergency asap and not wait any longer.
