I'm going to segment this post in days since her move. She's a new car from my gfs friend of a friend who decided he no longer wanted the cat. He hasn't been properly feeding her, nor has the cat had vaccinations in the last year. She's five years old and chonky because of the shit food and lack of exercise (my gfs pets are all super fit so I assume it's the food and lack of exercise).
Day 0: Cat moves in;. She's super curious and moves around without sequestering herself in a corner, even with two other pets around (one dog and a cat). Seems to like the bar area of the loft so we let her chill there. Clearly the cat she currently owns is curious but uncomfortable (she had a bad experience with a previous cat my gf took I'm temporarily) and vice versa. Cat didn't eat or drink or make a bowel movement that day, which we expected. My gfs mom also flew in for a week so there was alot of excitement.
Day 1: Cat has made herself at home in the bar area and wouldn't leave. She's eating slightly but not much. No bowel movements yet. She's very wary of the cat and dog, the cat especially so. Never had a fight but she's always looking over her shoulder for her. I figure maybe it's the placement of the litter box. It's next to the dog which is probably a problem, but the only other place to move it is either gfs office space or next to the dog crate across from original cats litter box. Not sure how gf feels about that so I'll let her sort it out.
Day 2-6: Cat more comfortable moving around. Really likes the loft area where we sleep and is now making noise, getting super cuddly, likes being super close or held when she sleeps. At the point of day 3 I figured she'd be in the shelter by now. Gf doesn't want to shelter the cat since they couldn't get it right the first time (which I think is understandable but ridiculous) so she and her friend are working to re-home the cat through their social network. Cat still hasn't made a bowl movement even though her anal glands were expressed on day 4. On Day 6 I have moved the litter box to my gfs office temporarily since she raised her pooper at me this morning and I saw a little poo dollop. Carried her to her litter box twice and she won't go. For years she's ONLY been fed dry food and won't take anything else, so I tried a beef/dry mix and we'll see what happens today.
I don't want her bootyhole or streak marks on the sheets or pillows, but I can't keep her from going there and I have no authority or money to take her to the vet. She should be pooping and clearly has to poop but won't. Anyone have experience with a cat who just won't poop?
