First time cat owner here. I grew up with one who lived to be 21, and always really enjoyed having one. My fiancée and I got a cat last Friday from the shelter who is a female and one year old. She is fixed. The last couple of nights she has been waking us (and possibly our neighbors) up with meowing, running around the apartment, scratching at our door, and if she’s in she will bat at our hands and feet. We have tried keeping her up all day, playing a ton especially an hour or two before bed, feeding before bed. All of that. She’s helped my anxiety so much before the last day or two, but now I’m calling into work because I didn’t sleep more than three hours the last few nights. The kicker is I adopted her to help with my anxiety and to provide companionship since my fiancée may be going away from home for a week or two at a time the next few months as he has a terminally ill family member. I feel sick to my stomach about returning her, but I’m also starting to be mentally and physically sick from lack of sleep. Any insight or advice here?
