Need advice on training cat

I just adopted my first cat today and he was really stressed out with the change in environment and also because we had movers making a lot of noise. He was initially holed up in his crate even though I left it open. I kept all his stuff in the bathroom and let him stay there because the rest of the house is a mess right now.

I managed to get him a little relaxed by being patient with him and also petting him now and then, and he eventually left the bathroom. My problem is he got stress free late in the night and I was waiting to sleep. As I am a college student and I’d like to be not disturbed in times when I should be studying or even sleeping, how am I supposed to let my cat know that I don’t want to play with him right now.

I hope people don’t misunderstand. I want him to stay in my bedroom but I didn’t do it today because he was so active that I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep like that.
