Hello
Recently we adopted my late mother in laws cat. He has always been territorial and overly aggressive, I’m talking walk into the room and he hisses aggressive. He bit my wife quite viciously a few weeks ago. Yet as I’m sure you can understand we want to make this work.
As we are going to have him for the foreseeable future we are actively trying to correct this. He is 7 or so years old. We got him neutered after receiving him (week and a half ago).
Currently he has to be segregated to a single room as we have a newborn and another cat and dog (each fixed and up to date on shots). So to get him acclimated to us we have tried sitting in the room with him without bothering him, Yano just being around him.
Well today we thought we had a breakthrough. He was coming up to us meowing, making figure 8s around our feet, heck he was even eating treats out of our hands. Out of legit nowhere he bit my wife again and began throatily growling at us. We left the room and he has been back to his old angry self again.
What are we doing wrong? What more could we do? This cat has deep sentimental value to my wife (late mil) but she is actually quite afraid of it.
If this isn’t the right place for this question let me know and I can move it. Any tips , comments or info would be greatly appreciated.
