The Woes of My Cat Peeing on Furniture

Hello, all! So my cat (m; named Elliott) is about 2 and a-half years old. He ran into my mom’s home when he was a kitten and adopted me into his life.

Until recently, he has never been the only cat in my apartment. When he was a kitten, my roommate also had a cat (m; age 3). The cats got along excellent but when Elliott turned 8 months old, he began to pee on furniture in the home. We’ve gone through 3 chairs and couches since.

Eventually my roommate and her cat moved out and a friend of mine moved into the space with her cat (f; age 9). The peeing continued up until April of last year. Unfortunately, my friend’s cat passed away about 4 months ago leaving Elliott as the sole cat of the household.

I changed his litter brand about two weeks ago and everything seemed fine until today. I cleaned his box early in the day, added a touch more of the Arm/Hammer powder made for cat boxes, and left the home to work for a couple hours. Well tonight I found pee on a chair and I don’t know what to do. I got rid of the furniture but I’m at my wits end. Please help.

Steps I’ve taken to mitigate the problem: -Have two litter boxes available (one in my room and one in the bathroom. -Remove the top from both litter boxes. -aluminum foil on couch, enzymatic cleaner, etc.

Side note: I had him spayed/neutered at age 1. I don’t know if that is a contributing factor to my issue but any piece of information might help you guys to help me.

Thank you, all!
