Hey everyone,
I brought my 10 month old pupper to the vet today to check out her paw. Now, my pupper is a European Boxer and she is super friendly, likes to give kisses, just wants to play and meet new people, she's never bitten anyone or any other animal. We've socialized her with family, friends and doggy daycare and no incidents at all. We've been going to the same vet ever since I got her and she is always excited when she gets there, needless to say she isn't scared of going there.
Now the male vet we've seen before always gave her treats when he was checking my dog out and things would always go smoothly so I brought some of her own treats (even for her shots). The vet we saw today wasn't the one who would give her treats, and when this vet was checking my dog out, my dog was squirming and making it difficult, she wasn't very comfortable. I asked the vet if I could give her a treat to keep her mind off of things but the vet said "no, we don't wanna reward this kind of behavior". I can agree to a certain point but I wanted her check up to go as smooth as possible like the previous times we've been there and to be clear I never reward any of my dogs for bad behavior. When the vet was trying to check out my dog's face my dog snapped and almost bit her hand, this is the first time she's ever tried to do this to anyone. After the check up my dog was totally fine and when the vet came back she wasn't growling or being aggressive to her, in fact she was wagging her tail (or bum in this case), didn't growl and wanted to lick her but I wouldn't let her. Everything was smooth afterward.
I think she just had a bad experience with this vet but I don't wanna ask for a specific vet the next time we go in. Has anyone ever experienced this? Should I warn the vet for the next visit and maybe ask them to give her treats while they check her out?
Thanks.
