So, my mom and I are moving from Canada to Australia and unfortunately we cannot bring our 2 cats with us (we don't have the money and we're scared they will get messed up or die or something because they'll be stressed for an entire 14-16 hour flight). The male will be 11 by the time we leave, we've had him for almost 10 years. The female will be 8 when we leave and we've had her since she was a kitten. They both really love eachother so we will make sure to give them to a friend who will adopt them together. The male is independant but he's a stressed kitty and it has taken him years to warm up to us, and the female is very lovable but is strongly attached to me and follows me everywhere. I don't know if cats can even feel abandoned but I really don't want them to get depressed when we leave them.
How will they cope with the change of environment and owners? Will it be more difficult for them to adapt since we have had them for so long? What can we do to help them ease into their new family? Will they be fine or are they at risk of developing some kind of behavioral issues?
I just can't seem to find answers that are relevant to my cats and we've never had to deal with this before so we have no clue what is going to happen to them!
