I had to move out and leave home last year and I couldn't afford to take my sweet kitty with me but my mom and sister offered to keep her til I could pay the ridiculous deposits and fees to move her in with me. To preface this I am pretty thin and my sis is obese at the moment and eats frequently/nearly constantly. My sister has her own cat that is very much overweight but he's an absolute menace around food. He gets super aggressive to get food first, but I just assumed that this was part of his mannerisms. I always left a full bowl of food out for my cat that only she could get to and would spoil her occasionally with wet food or treats, so ultimately she was in control of how much she chose to eat.
I went to visit them and saw my girl and she's put on soooo much weight!! It's actually to the point where she's a bit chunky now after being a slender/fit(?) cat before. I could pick her up easily before and now she's so heavy! I put out some wet food for her and she absolutely scarfed it down, I have never seen her act that way towards food before!!
So I'm curious as to why this is.. Do cats mimic their owner's eating habits? What's the reason for this massive change? :( I'm sad that she's overweight now since I feel like it's my fault for not being able to take her with me..
