Hey /r/pets,
I've just adopted my dad's dog for the month since he'll be traveling for a while. She seems to like the new place just fine, and it's in a much more nature-y area than the big city where he lives, so she does great when I'm around. But as soon as I leave she starts crying like she's hurt. Luckily I work a block from my apt and can come back to walk her often, but the office is unfortunately not dog friendly so I can't take her in with me.
I would just say tough love and let her cry it out until she gets used to being here, but my neighbor works like noon to 9pm and I don't want her to have to listen to my pup's whining every morning.
Anyone have any tips on how to get her used to the new place? She stays on her own at my dad's place without issue, but obviously that's a place she knows and has spent most of her life in. I really don't want to muzzle her & traumatize her more. She's usually not very vocal, so it's just her being alone & not used to my apartment.
