So I have three cats. There’s Myca (18), Kitten (8) and Pawl (almost 2.) Lately, Myca has been acting weird and peeing on the couch. She never does this.
Yeah, I know what you’re thinking “she’s 18. It’s a medical issue.” Nope. Took her to the vet. That was the first thing I did. Told them what’s been going on, they did a bunch of blood work and urine tests. Every single value came back normal. She’s healthier than I am. No kidney damage, no crystals, no infection. Did liver and thyroid tests too. Normal.
I’m pretty sure the reason she’s doing this is because of the young cat, Pawl. He’s becoming an adult socially but he’s still an obnoxious shit head who tries to play with the other cats. Myca is 18, she barely put up with being tackled by him when he was a child and now she’s fed up with being tackled by an adult male cat.
Today I noticed her nosing around the couch so I put Pawl in another room and moved Myca to the litter box. She used the litter box just fine after noticing that Pawl was gone.
I’ve already sprayed feliway, but it doesn’t seem to help much. And I’m not home every hour of the day to relocate Pawl. I am at a loss for what to do.
The internet says to create a space for the cat who is having problems. Alright, but how do I keep Pawl out of it? Should I lock one of them in another room when I’m not home? I got a new cat tree that Myca likes that Pawl doesn’t...? Pawl has a bit of separation anxiety so I don’t think putting him in a room by himself would work.
I play with the cats for a significant amount of time per day. I’ve been told to curb Pawls annoying kitten behavior by playing with him more. And I did/do. But five minutes later he’s back to attacking the other cats. And then he throws loud tantrums when they get mad.
Also I have three litter boxes in three different rooms of my apartment.
How do I help them resolve their conflict?
