Raising a kitten with some light travelling sometimes

I have been thinking about getting a kitten for a long, long time. Time has come that some acquaintance's has a nest coming up – I could get one if I wanted to.

I'm kind of in a difficult situation; I share an apartment with a friend, but I go and visit my girlfriend at her hometown once, mostly twice, a month, just for a weekend (1.5hrs away). I don't want to ask my friend (housemate) to look after the kitten when I'm away, because I know he doesn't like cats all that much.

Would it be okay to take my kitten with me (tops once a month) for a weekend at my girlfriends, at least until the kitten turns adult? Also, once adult, would it be okay for the cat to be 'alone' for a maximum of 2 days? The cat could either be inside where I will put enough food, or outside where I'd put food, a good shelter, and the weather shouldn't be too hot or cold.
