Traveling with a Reactive Dog

I have a reactive dog that barks at other people and animals. He even barks at animals on the TV. When on leash he will bark at people if they surprise him, but will lunge, bark, and jump at other dogs. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, but he has a very growly bark. His tail is still wagging and teeth are not bared, but it scares the crap out of people who do not know him. We are moving in a few months from Alaska to Colorado and have to road trip. We are planning on staying at pet friendly hotels, but I worry about his reactions and getting kicked out of a place because people think he is intimitading. He is a pit mix, but is only 35-40lbs. He is almost 4 years old and no matter what I do he still behaves the same way. I have started giving him CBD oil to help him with anxiety in the car, which is helping. Does anyone have any other suggestions to help make this move less stressful on all of us?

I thought about leaving him with a friend and having them fly him down once we get there, but turns out no airline will fly him because of his breed.
