Upstairs cat? Some advice.

So a little backstory, I recently moved into this apartment from two doors over. Same building. I moved because my previous upstairs neighbors had three kids (8,10, 12) in the same bedroom and two parents in the other bedroom. The noise was unbelievable for the two tears I was there. I offered to pay for carpeting, I offered to buy the pads for under the feet of furniture but unfortunately it turned into a "who can bang the most" situation. So I decided to move. The area I am in is expensive so I fenagled my way into this apartment. It's smaller but my daughter and I are happy-ish.

Before moving in here I of course asked who lived above and below. I was told the tenant upstairs has a cat. Well a busy family of 5 can't compare to a cat, so I didn't think more of it.

Well it's at the point now where my daughter (11) is up a few times a night until about 2:00 am when the "cat" finally stops. I swear it sounds like a full grown tiger, if it's actually in the feline family. The last thing in the world I want is more issues with neighbors.

I have had cats all my life, I love them. My last cat was with me for 18 years. I know cat love. So I decided to go and have a chat with the neighbor. But she would not come to the door. I knocked twice last night and anoher time this morning. I know someone is there because I heard them behind the door. I spent this morning asking around the building if anyone knows the person that lives there, but it seems they are rarely seen.

I hate moving. I am a very good tenant. I don't have parties. We are not heavy heel walkers and I use a cordless headset to listen to music. I know cats are nocturnal, and I know they run around at night but it sounds so lound it actually surprises me.

Is there anything I can do if the person refuses to come to the door? I'm thinking that another week of this will put me in a pretty bad mood. Thanks for any advice.
