Hey guys!
We recently came into a 10 week old kitten who is an absolute joy... Except at night.
He's generally very confident and curious and not super playful but likes to explore. We have a 6 year old resident cat who is usually pretty chill as well and we plan on introducing them in a week or so.
HOWEVER! sleeping arrangements after the first night were difficult. The resident cat typically sleeps on the bed and our little kitten friend is currently sequestered in the bathroom off of our room.
I've read about 20 conflicting things on what to do with kittens at night and they either say:
-
Leave them alone and even let them cry all night (which he does if we leave him while he's awake) so that they learn to sleep alone and be independent or
-
Sleep in the same room - he is a baby after all and is probably scared and he'll trust you and become more comfortable in his new home
I've had adult cats but never a kitten before so I'm a little lost as to what is best for him. My natural inclination is to want to comfort him even if it means sleeping on the bathroom floor with him lol but I don't want to screw him up for adulthood, either. He's just very young and I don't want to stress him out, either.
Please advise!
