Barking

Hi everyone, Looking for some advice, I just overheard my neighbour complaining to another neighbour about a ‘yappy dog’ and deduced that she was talking about my 5 month old puppy. The other neighbour has met us and our dog, and they aren’t worried about him. I’m working from home, and due to Covid restrictions my fiance and myself are home pretty much 24/7.

Our pup used to bark a little but has grown out of it when he’s outside by himself, we’ve put a lot of effort into exposing him to different noises and situations and not barking at things, and if he starts barking we investigate pretty quickly. I know he doesn’t bark during the day as my window is right next to the backyard where his toys and kennel are where he generally hangs out when he’s not with us.

Last night there were two stray dogs on our front lawn and so he started barking at them. Stopped as soon as my fiancé went outside to investigate and then went back to sleep.

I’m not sure how to approach the neighbour, or if I should. I’ve never met her (we share a fence but her house is in the court behind mine). She sounds a bit rough - I hear her come home from work for lunch and yell/swear at her cats, as well as when she’s home regularly. Not one for confrontation - should I just keep up the training with our dog and hope he gets better or should I go and introduce myself?
