Cat that is very old ! Need help

Hi so we were given a cat by senior friend who passed away. She is a very old cat, were not quite sure how long she had her but we know she is very old. We have had her for 4 years.

A few months ago she stopped using the litter box with the pellets and only use it to pee. She started pooping on rugs. We thought pellets were hurting her feet because she is an older cat. So we laid down pet pads next to the litter box to which she used that to poop for awhile but eventually went back to pooping on the rugs. Eventually we got a second litter box with regular litter and moved that into the living room, as thats where she hangs out. She does use the litter box but she then started pooping on my moms bed. Shes even pooped in when my mom’s sleeping on it. The thing is my moms bedroom is very close to the living room. Like very close, apartment close.

We put down aluminum foil and she pooped on that too. We dont know what else to do, if she has some type of behavior problem or dementia. I dont think my mom wants to take care of her. Especially that shes been pooping everywhere. She does yowl often even when her food is full especially at night. Her poop is normal but she does have hairballs from time to time. We are going to take her to vet, but if it ends up behavioral or dementia. I dont think my mom wants to keep her anymore. I can tell my mom is getting very annoyed by her.

Another thing to note, she is an indoor cat and we took her to the vet a year ago and they said she was healthy except she arthritis but then i don’t understand why she would jump on the high bed to use the restroom. Instead of the litter box or pet pads that on our ground.

Has anyone have experience with this?
