So I got a new kitten yesterday and got them set up in my study. They have a cat tree with sisal rope, cardboard floor scratcher, bed, feliway diffuser, toys, and food/water. They HAVE to stay in the study most of the time because I have a 3 year old resident cat who is quite afraid of the kitten. It’s only been 24 hours so no surprise there. However, today the kitten has decided that they want to be with me at all times and screeches and pulls at the study door when they’re locked up. This isn’t helping the resident cat acclimate and it’s obviously very stressful for the kitten. I played with the kitten multiple times today to where when I do sit in the room, they fall asleep. Anyone have any tips to share? Will the kitten learn to “self-soothe” given they ARE tired? I’m hesitant to kick the resident out of my room at night in favor of bringing the kitten into my bedroom - resident kitty needs a lot of reassurance about this new addition. This is my first kitten that had to be segregated from the resident cat at all times - my former adult cat was great with kittens.
