Is a surrendered cat no longer mine?

I surrendered my cat to the rescue yesterday because he was attacking (anxiety-based aggression I think) me and I couldn't figure out what to do. I was desperate and getting sick all the time from not sleeping (he would scratch me when I slept so I became afraid to sleep. I live in a studio apt). I texted the rescue, without thinking, that I wanted him rehomed because I snapped a bit after he repeatedly attacked me (jumping on me to bite and scratch me) again. After, I gave him melatonin to help ease him for the transfer (I only came across that option that day) and he was soooo chill I didn't want to give him back but I had already set things in motion and I wasn't sure if it was a fluke. They told me they would take him to the vet for observation for the medication (I was always afraid to take him because I would have to put him in the carrier and the rescue told me to give him a calming creme). I told them if they would put him on meds I would try again. I love him to death but I couldn't live like that. They said they would keep me updated but they have not responded to my communication.

I am the adoptive person with paperwork. I did surrender him yesterday which is what I am expected to do for rehoming. Does that mean I'm done and have no rights? Or the expectation of communication now? Basically is he now considered no longer mine at all because I let them take him?

There are more details that explain more about the dynamic in play between me and the rescue place that made it very hard for me to get support from them. I'm happy to answer if you have any question on that.
