I have had my cat for about two months now. His name is Clay and I got him from the humane society. They told me he was most likely around 6-years-old. I have another cat as well, his name is Leo and he is around 4. They get along great and love each other so I don't think the issue is territorial or it is in spite of having another cat around.
The issue is that Clay keeps peeing outside of the litter box. He will pee on the wall and floor around the litter box half of the time. We have two separate litter boxes so they don't have to fight over one and we keep them clean as much as we can (scooping often). Leo does just fine and manages to go in the litter box every time but Clay refuses to. We have taken him to the vets and he is not sick and seems fine so it is not medical. Like I said he gets along really well with our cat. We take very good care of him and he's really spoiled so I don't see it being out of spite towards us either. We have tried everything. Different forms of litter boxes, placing plastic mats around the box, and even trying different litters and he still continues to do it. We just moved into a new place right before we got him with brand new carpet and paint and he's slowly ruining it and I want to control it before it gets too bad.
Does anyone have any advice? I really need help it's driving me crazy. I love him so much but I have never had this many issues with a cat using the litter box before.
