My neighbors moved in a few months ago and ever since we have noticed that they probably don't treat their dogs well. It started with a large pitbull (potentially) and we noticed they left him in the yard with no shelter practically all night. I would hear him howling at 3am and I have a few videos from my room where you can hear it.
Eventually this stopped and I noticed a few more dogs. I now am hearing a dog screaming/howling from what seems like their back yard but I can't quite see anything. The first pitt would be roaming around but this dog must be tied up or in a kennel because I hear it very loudly but I don't see it.
I spoke to my land lord who lives a few houses away (he does not own that house unfortunately) and he said that the neighbors are under some kind of investigation with a detective. There was a domestic spat and they broke 2 of their windows out from the inside. He said he has also noticed someone comes by and cleans out the garage with a hose and that potentially they are breeding dogs out of the garage. It is in a fairly expensive neighborhood and there is hardly anyone at the house and suddenly there will be 10 people. My girlfriend has also noticed a pregnant dog which adds to that theory.
My struggle is that I want to call the Humane Society or the ASPCA or something, but I don't want it to cause them to start beating the dog to be quiet or they just take the dog and kill it. I am worried that these organizations wouldn't really be able to do anything.
Does anyone have a recommendation? I want to do something for these dogs, especially if they are running some kind of puppy mill. Does someone have a good organization to call specifically or the type of thing to say? I welcome any potential help and I can answer some questions if I need to. If it helps I am in the Triad of NC.
Thank you.
