Our dog has suddenly started growling at us

Backstory on her: she was abused before we adopted her. They used to hit her and they just let her go on the streets when they didn't want her anymore. She is a shar pei/pit mix we are pretty sure.

She never used to growl at us. She did at other people sometimes, when she was scared, but never towards us.

Scenario: We are on the bed, but we want her to move. So, we tell her to move. If she doesnt we will push her/nudge her to get down. Then she growls. More of a grunt growl than something super aggressive and threatening. If we pull the blanket because she is laying on it, she growls at us. More of a grunt than a teeth bared growl, but still. Also, when she licks our face, she snaps at us, too. Just aggressively licks! She has never hurt us, but still.

We tell her no and make her get off the bed, but still no changes. We do not know what to do. We want to have kids, but if she is like this I dont think it would be safe. Kids will be in her personal space. Does anyone have any advice for us?
