Hi all
I adopted a cat last year and the owner let the cat out from a pillowcase to my house. I had a room prepared for the cat, with a litter box, bowls, cat bed and scratcher to start with. But was taken back that he let the cat out into the living room, free to roam around.
Now, my cat is extremely anxious and stressed, after 10 months. A stray cat attacked her one night in April (cat broke into my house, long story) so that didn't help at all.
She has also been peeing on the couch. Poor girl just leaks without knowing. I have noticed she approaches the litterboxes but doesn't go in them to pee. When I see her do this, I walk slowly near the litterboxes or to the room next to where they are and wait. She follows me and if she does need to pee, she will actually use the litterboxes. Obviously, I can't do this when I am not home or when I am asleep.
I know it takes cats a long while to adjust, even up to multiple years.
I am looking into establishing a base camp for her to hopefully ease her into it a lot more and lessen her anxiety and stress.
Vet said there is nothing wrong with her physically.
She meows relentlessly to be let out when she is in a room and the door is closed.
Would appreciate any tips in transitioning her to a base camp. Basically starting again. So far, I might move all her toys to a room and spend time with her there, door open, a few minutes a day. Then gradually increase the time and eventually closing the door for a few minutes a day.
Thank you.
