I took in a cat about a month ago and he has been adjusting well to my house.
The only problem I've been having is that he'll run while pooping. Sometimes he'll sit in the litter box before jumping out like he's startled and then run around the house, only stopping in the randomest places to poop. Other times he doesn't even bother going to the litter box and will squat on the floor; we then hear him running around and know he has pooped somewhere. If I catch him squatting and try and carry him to the litter box, he'll either be super skittish and run from me (he usually tolerates me carrying him) or he'll jump out of the litter box anyways and run again.
The vet said that he's not constipated nor is he in pain. He's not straining either. The vet gave him Lactulose, which I've given to him twice per day for about a week now, but nothing's changed.
It's especially frustrating because this cat has a previous foster, who told me the only litter box problem she had was when her house was so noisy he peed outside the box. My house is not particularly loud or in a loud neighborhood and he has pooped on the floor anytime of the day, so I don't think noise is responsible for this.
He has no issues peeing, eating, or drinking. He has two litter boxes, both of which he's ignored while pooping. Please help, it's almost 2 am and I'm writing this right after cleaning up his latest poop adventure.
